13 schools will receive grants to resume their work within the framework of a joint project of Ukrgasvydobuvannya and the CSR Development Centre. The total grant funds allocated by Ukrgasvydobuvannya is UAH 500 thousand. This will help restore students' distance learning in September.
Some schools located in cities and villages under occupation were partially or completely destroyed. Despite this, teachers hope to resume education in autumn in a remote format. That is why most applications relate to the purchase of computer equipment. Each of the 13 designated schools will receive about UAH 40 thousand for their needs.
Ukrgasvydobuvannya, together with the CSR Development Centre, announced the start of accepting applications for grants from schools affected by military operations or occupation in early June. Since then, 46 applications have been received from 10 regions, mainly in the north and east of the country.
"The development of education is one of the key areas of Ukrgasvydobuvannya's social activity. We have helped schools before, and we cannot stand aside in the most difficult times. The grant project for affected schools will not solve all their problems, but it will help in solving urgent issues related to the preparation for the new academic year," Yuriy Solonchuk, Regional Development and General Affairs Manager at Ukrgasvydobuvannya, said.
For example, in the village of New York, located in the Donetsk region, shelling of the village resulted in the damage of a school building; windows were knocked out by a shell and the office wall was smashed to smithereens; furniture was destroyed, and doors were damaged. The school will receive a grant to purchase a set of multimedia equipment for one of the destroyed classrooms.
"As a result of Russia's attack on Ukraine, 2,104 educational institutions were affected by bombing and shelling. 215 of them were completely destroyed. We understand that the contribution of one company cannot cover the needs of all schools that need our help. Therefore, we are announcing a raise of additional funds to help more educational institutions. Everyone in Ukraine or abroad can send any amount to a special account. We also encourage other companies to join our initiative, because children's access to education is more important today than ever," Maryna Saprykina, Head of the CSR Development Centre, added.
