Naftogaz to create the largest geological database in Ukraine

As part of digitalization, specialists with the Naftogaz Exploration and Production division launched geological and industrial data management software. The launch of this software marked the creation of the largest digital geological database in Ukraine.

The system already contains data about 43 fields and over 1200 wells in the western region. Plans call for digitization of data about more than 200 oil and gas areas and 5,300 wells operated by the Naftogaz Exploration and Production division.

“We have been consistently digitalizing our operational processes. In 2020, our 3D field modeling center was launched in Kharkiv. We are currently implementing another project that will consolidate a huge array of geological data in the digital environment. We have already digitized the archives of the western region at this stage, and are currently preparing for the processing of information on the Dnieper-Donets Depression. In-depth analysis of geological data and 3D field modeling are our tools to improve the efficiency of processes and make management decisions under the strategy for increasing the resource base,” said Oleksandr Romanyuk, Director of the Naftogaz Exploration and Production Division.

The database is formed on the basis of ProSource software developed by the international company Schlumberger. The project will be implemented for 5 years. It includes the stage of the data array build-up through digitization of archival materials. In addition, the database is integrated with other systems of Naftogaz Group. In other words, geological information will enter the system automatically from other software products.

The system will contain:

  • geological data, namely information about license blocks, fields, wells, their structure;
  • scan images, well logs;
  • information on the conducted seismic surveys, well profiles;
  • production stream, results of WO operations;
  • 3D field models;
  • field development review from UkrNDIGas, revised drafts, geological and economic estimation, feasibility study.

Background. In December 2020, Naftogaz opened the 3D Field Modeling & Visualization Center in Kharkiv at the premises of UkrNDIGas.
