Ukrgasvydobuvannya launched a program to increase gas production - Tryzub

Ukrgasvydobuvannya presented a plan to increase gas production - Tryzub. It is based on three promising directions: ultradeep drilling, tight gas deposit and offshore field exploration. On February 17, Andrew Favorov, Director for Integrated Gas Business at Naftogaz of Ukraine, presented the new program to industry experts and media representatives.

In particular, within the program in 2020, Ukrgasvydobuvannya plans the following projects:

  • - Ultradeep drilling. Together with Schlumberger, the drilling of exploration well No. 888 has been completed with a project depth of 5750 m at the largest Shebelynka field in Ukraine, which will help to confirm new potential deposits.
  • - Tight gas. Two exploration wells are planned to be drilled in 2020 to achieve the potential of the Svyatogorsk field, one of the most promising of the tight gas deposits.
  • - Offshore field exploration. Ukrgasvydobuvannya plans to take part in a new competition for production sharing agreement conclusion in the Northwest Black Sea.

“Ukraine can no longer rely on the rapid hydrocarbon production increase on the existing fields with the available instruments. We have come to the point that we need to start new projects that we have just talked about before. Yes, they include more risks, require more investment, new technologies. We need experienced international partners who have the necessary expertise. But if we start today, in 2-3 years, we will have the first results of the mentioned projects and will clearly understand the subsoil prospects. This is our chance to move from holding the production to increase its gas volumes”, - said Andrew Favorov, Director for Integrated Gas Business at NJSC Naftogaz.

At the same time, the company will continue to work with its existing portfolio of the fields and explore new sites to support the necessary production volume.

During the event, Andrew Favorov also noted that in 2019 Naftogaz provided the stable heating season; this had been made possible by diversifying the gas supply sources, pumping the maximum gas volumes into the underground storage facilities and maintaining its production volumes.
