Ukrgasvydobuvannya has started 3D seismic surveys in the western regions of Ukraine, which will cover an area exceeding 1.5 thousand square kilometres. According to the Company's information, these are the largest studies carried out using this technology, conducted in Ukraine. Advanced international practices of geophysical research in complex geological conditions are applied.
The primary objective of the survey is obtaining new data about promising hydrocarbon deposits at depths up to 5 km.
"We expect that the launched 3D seismic survey project will allow us re-assessing the prospects of the Carpathian petroleum province. In particular, the available geological data indicate the prospects for the development of resources in this area at relatively great depths. Due to 3D seismic, we will be able to create detailed, informative geological models of the discovered hydrocarbon deposits and, respectively, unblock new opportunities to increase gas production in the west of Ukraine," Maksym Vityk, Director of Exploration and Development at Ukrgasvydobuvannya, says.
Ukrgasvydobuvannya's research partners are Ukrainian companies identified based on the results of public procurement.
The prospects of the Carpathian region are indicated by the success of neighbouring countries. In particular, Poland managed to increase its reserves by 20 billion cubic meters of gas based on the results of the 3D seismic survey. This indicator was achieved at depleted fields that have been developed for over 70 years in geological conditions like the Carpathian region.
