Today, on March 1, Naftogaz Group has selected communities that will continue their competition for a grant for social and infrastructure projects within the framework of the Development Energy Grant Competition. Overal within a month, 305 applications were submitted from communities from 11 regions of Ukraine, where Naftogaz Group operates. 50 communities winning UAH 100 thousand each for the implementation of their projects will be announced in May.

In their applications, the communities had to submit the idea of the project based on three Naftogaz strategic sustainable development goals that is to improve their lives, namely:

– Goal #3. Good health and well-being.

– Goal #4. Quality education.

– Goal #11. Sustainable development of cities and communities.

Application process started on January 26, 2021. At the next stage, 90 short-listed teams are to follow a series of training modules organized by competition educational partner – the Institute for Partnership and Sustainable Development that will last until the end of May. The aim of master classes is to develop the knowledge and skills that communities will need not only to prepare a competitive project, but also to use in everyday work for sustainable development of their communities.

“We are pleasantly surprised by the high interest of the communities to this competition. When contacting with representatives of local self-governments and community residents having active life position, we felt a sincere desire to implement a useful, high-quality project that will definitely contribute to improving their living standards. Some communities sent ideas only, others - communicated extended applications indicating partners, terms and budgets. Our participants have two months to finalize their projects under the guidance of mentors and submit grant applications for consideration by the competition committee. This is not the first competition arranged for communities by the Naftogaz Group. "With each new project or competition, we are looking for new and interesting interaction mechanisms with communities," Vitaliy Chudak, Head of the Regional Development Projects Department of Ukrgasvydobuvannya JSC (Naftogaz Group) says.

The results of community projects should be implemented and presented by the end of October, 2021.

In December 2020, the Naftogaz Group held the idea competition among schoolchildren “My Project for Society”.
